How Anita Dongre brought the Indian fashion empire to the world and solved the problem of economic empowerment for women in this country. Anita Dongre born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India is known as the founder of the House of Anita Dongre.

No longer limited to Indian territory, Anita Dongre is also expanding her fashion empire into North America. She has a 3-storey store in Soho (New York) and has been frequented by a number of celebrities.

After graduating from SNDT College in fashion design in 1984, Dongre knew that he wanted to create an influential fashion house. And she was inspired by her own youth in Jaipur and the House of Anita Dongre was born.

While reflecting the beauty and rich heritage of India, she also brings a modern, fresh breath into her outfits. Her special understanding of the woman have helped Dongre create 4 top fashion brands in the country with over 1.3 billion people.

Dongre is also a prominent philanthropist who has been at the forefront of the fight for wages and equal treatment of women in rural India. Besides, her work with the Sewa Center was inspired by conscious consumption as a new modern lifestyle.

Including India’s first Western clothing brand, Global Desi. Dongre’s fashion house includes luxury bridal clothing brand – Anita Dongre, precious handmade Jadau jewelry line – PinkCity.

As a result, she focused on reviving, maintaining crafts in remote villages of India and empowering artisans. The sustainable fashion brand Grassroot was also founded after Dongre met women at Sewa Center.

Currently, 8 centers have been opened, along with a plan to increase this number to 30 within 2 years in her home area alone. In addition, the long-term goal is to develop centers across India to help address poverty. It has brought income to the people to improve the quality of life while changing the economy and society in remote rural or mountainous areas.
